One World, Many Stories: Library Holds Book Drive For African Children

Organizations aim to spread the love of reading to Ugandan children.

Spread the joy and love of reading by donating a new or gently used children's book through August 1 and help truly embrace the summer reading club theme of One World, Many Stories.

The library is joining forces with Vernon Hills High School, Bookfriends, Inc., and COVE Alliance to spread the joy and love of reading overseas to the faraway shores of Uganda.

Together we are on a mission to see that the children of the Kapeeka community’s seven elementary schools receive a collection of books to enhance their education and daily lives. Currently the children of Kapeeka have no access to the public library and cannot experience the joy and enchantment that reading a book can bring.

To help us with this global effort, we are humbly asking the community to please donate a new or gently used children's book when you visit the Cook Park Library at 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville or the Aspen Drive Library at 701 Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills. Collection bins are located in the lobbies at both library locations.

The elementary and middle schools of Hawthorn District 70 have already kicked off this cause but many more books are needed. Please help us reach our goal of having a full shipment in the fall. For more information, please call (847) 362-2330.
