Courtyard Concert- Potts and Pans

Every
Friday
from June 6 to August 29, musicians will perform a wide range of
musical styles including jazz, rock, folk, and bluegrass from noon to 1 p.m. in
front of the library on Clayton and County Streets. If it rains, concerts will
move indoors to the Bradbury Room in the library’s lower level. Listeners can
bring their own lunch or purchase lunch available for sale onsite from Green
Town Tavern. Drinks and baked goods are also available for purchase by the
Friends of the Waukegan Public Library. The Courtyard Concerts are generously
sponsored each year by the Friends of the Waukegan Public Library.

Potts and Pans is an internationally acclaimed steelband comprised
mainly of Northern Illinois University graduates that were a part of the
NIU Steelband. Created during the summer of 2011 by Matt Potts to fill
the void left after leaving NIU and realizing that there were little to
no opportunities to play in a steelpan ensemble, Potts and Pans is
devoted to allowing panists the opportunity to continue growing. Being
just a part of the larger not-for-profit Potts & Pans organization,
the steelband helps bring more attention and draws interest to the
organization. The organization as a whole is about spreading pan
knowledge and educating communities about the steelpan.

A
steelband that is comprised of experienced musicians that strive for
playing difficult music, arranging their own music, and commissioning
new works. Potts & Pans Steelband is not about playing “beach”
music, it is about showing the diversity of the instrument and educating
audiences.
