CCU Continues Tradition of Community Outreach During Summer Season of 2012

Local credit union participates in wide variety of community celebrations and activities

Libertyville, IL, August 21, 2012:  Another successful summer outreach season has come and gone for Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $585 M. Waukegan, IL), which recently completed an impressive lineup of 16 community events.  The Member-owned credit union participated in numerous community events during the 2012 summer season, including a robust lineup of festivals, parades and community celebrations.

“Summer is a great time to show Members and the public at large how Consumers Credit Union gets involved with local activities,” noted Sean M. Rathjen, Consumers Credit Union President. “Long days and warm nights make this the perfect time to venture out and have some fun while enjoying the company of friends, neighbors and family.”

This year’s schedule kicked-off with the Round Lake Area Chamberfest & Expo on April 28th and Round Lake Area Memorial Day Parade on May 28th.  The credit union also participated in several neighborhood events, such as North Chicago Days on August 4th, Most Blessed Trinity’s Tri-Parish Kermes in Waukegan on August 3rd – 5th, Gurnee Days on August 11th – 12th and the Heart for Park City celebration on August 18th.   CCU volunteers handed out candy, CCU shirts, temporary tattoos and miniature CCU footballs, along with dashboard “sticky pros” to provide a handy place to store your phone while driving.

Team CCU is active in fundraising, too.  The credit union’s walking team raised more than $5,600.00 for the American Cancer Society’s Waukegan Relay for Life (see attached picture).  On June 30th, CCU’s staff worked the beer tent at Mundelein Days, a fundraiser for the Village.  Additionally, CCU made a $3,000.00 cash donation to the P.L.A.N. Food Pantry, serving the central Lake County area.

“The credit union has a wonderful team of employees who also support these events,” continued Rathjen.  “Many volunteer their time bringing their spouses, children and other relatives along to help out, too.  Thanks to everyone who helped us achieve our goal to give something back to the communities we serve – and do so in a way that’s meaningful for as many folks as possible.  That’s a philosophy our founders embraced when the credit union first started in 1930, and it’s a philosophy we continue to support today.”
