Libertyville Cares: Give Back for 'GivingTuesday'

Dec. 3 is GivingTuesday.

Are you looking for a chance to help others?

A campaign is underway to make the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday a day called "GivingTuesday." Dec. 3 will be the second annual GivingTuesday, when people are encouraged to give to various causes.

Here in Lake County, there are plenty of ways to participate in theGivingTuesday movement.

For example, donation drive is underway on the YouCaring fundraising website for the families who were displaced by a fire that swept through a six-unit condo building in Gurnee Oct. 27. Crews from 15 local fire departments battled the blaze.

A neighbor, Rhoda Kenna, started a fundraiser on the YouCaring website. Dubbed the "Help the Families of Walnut Avenue"fundraiser, people have donated $530 so far. The goal is to raise at least $2,000.

"Five families have been displaced due to fire. I'd like to help them out where insurance falls short," Kenna wrote on the site.

You can also check out the many causes seeking donations through the GoFundMe website.

If you want to continue giving beyond GivingTuesday, Bavaro Hair Spa, 1322 S. Milwaukee Ave., will hold a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 8 for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. People who donate money to the cause will receive a complimentary haircut. All funds raised will be donated to World Vision. Haircuts will be given by appointment only at (847) 362-6262.
