What is Seasonal Affective Disorder?

Do you know anything about Seasonal Affective Disorder? This video from Advocate Condell Medical Center offers an explanation.

According to the National Mental Health Disorders Association, approximately 10 to 20 percent of the U.S. population suffers from mild SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) during the winter months and nearly five percent suffer from a more severe form of the disorder.

SAD can be tricky to identify, with symptoms that can be as mild as feeling drained of energy or “down” to more severe symptoms of serious depression.

In an effort to help you identify SAD, Dr. Allison Benthal, an internal medicine physician with Advocate Medical Group and Advocate Condell Medical Center, discusses the signs, symptoms and treatment options available for those affected.
