Cold Spell Coming for New Year's Holiday

The area will enjoy a slight warm-up Friday and Saturday before temperatures drop at the start of next week and into the New Year's holiday. 

A high of 36 is in the forecast Friday for Libertyville and 43 on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of snow on Sunday as temperatures begin to drop with a high of 26 expected. 

The start of the week will get a frigid start. It will be sunny and cold on Monday with a high of 6 degrees. Temps will drop down to -6 overnight. 

During the day on New Year's Eve it will be partly sunny with a high near 7. The night could see a low of -6 degrees. There is a slight chance of snow on New Year's Day and a high near 11.
