'Polar Express' Trains to Depart from Local Towns

Grayslake and Libertyville will both serve as departure points for the trains.

The popular "Polar Express" train is set to depart from many local train stations throughout the holiday season.

Based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg, the "Polar Express" train feature a visit from Santa Claus.

Grayslake will feature the "Polar Express" train from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. Dec. 7. The trips will depart from the Grayslake Metra Station at Lake and St. Paul Streets. The trips are being sponsored by the Grayslake Park District and will cost $15 for children who are residents and $19 for non-residents, along with $12 for adults who are residents and $14 for non-residents. The train will travel to Fox Lake. To register, call the park district at (847) 223-7529.

Two "Polar Express" trains will depart from Libertyville. The first will be offered by the Mundelein Park District at 3:10 p.m. Dec. 14. The train will depart from the Prairi Crossing Metra Station, 30001 Midlothian Road, Libertyville. Tickets are $12 for children who are residents, $15 for non-residents ages 2-12, $10 for adult residents and $13 for non-residents ages 13 to adult. A second "Polar Express" train will depart from the Libertyville Metra Station, 200 W. Lake St., at three different times on Dec. 21. All trains are sold out for this program, which is being sponsored by the Vernon Hills Park District.
