Auto Theft Conspiracy

On January 20, 2014 at approximately 1:00 am the Lake County Sheriff’s Office highway patrol division received information provided by the Mount Pleasant Wisconsin Police Department which resulted in a Kenosha man being charged with auto theft conspiracy.

A white 2014 Ford Mustang GT was stopped by the Mount Pleasant Police Department which was stolen from Gurnee Ford located at 18834 W. Grand Av in Gurnee.  The investigation led to a Gurnee Ford employee service porter, Travis A. Smith.

Travis A. Smith, 19, of the 5100 Block of 23rd Av in Kenosha, Wisconsin provided the keys to the white Mustang as well as another vehicle in exchange for a promised payout of $10,000.00.  The second vehicle remained in the lot at Gurnee Ford.  The invoice total of each vehicle is approximately $40,000.00.

Smith was charged with theft over $10,000 (Class 2 Felony) and auto theft conspiracy (Class 1 Felony).

Smith’s jail bond was set at $50,000.00.  He is scheduled to appear in court on February 3, 2014.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.
