Residential Burglaries

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has seen a rise in residential burglaries in Ingleside and unincorporated Lake Villa.  Between November 5, 2013 and January 3, 2014 there have been four residential burglaries in these areas.  There have also been attempted burglaries where the offender is scared off by the homeowner or a neighbor.

An offender was described as a White or Hispanic male, approximately 6’00” weighing 150-170lbs.

It is common to see a rise in burglaries during this time of year.  It becomes dark outside early and criminals use that to their advantage.  You can prevent a burglary from occurring by following these suggestions:

Ø  Always lock your residence.

Ø  Keep outside lights on and use motion sensor lights.

Ø  Make your home appear to be occupied.  If you are away use automatic timers on lights.

Ø  Don’t allow mail or garbage to pile up.

Ø  Be aware of your surroundings.  If you see something unusual, call the police.
