An Important Conversation about School Bullying

Mike Nerheim is a candidate for Lake County State's Attorney. He has received endorsements for his bold initiatives, including "Prevent School Bullying, Prevent Crime."

Over the past several months, I have been speaking with national and local experts on the topic of school bullying and will make it a priority to work to stop bullying as a way to prevent crime in Lake County. Bullying behavior and being a victim of bullying often leads teens to violent crime and drug abuse, and it is increasing in prevalence through the use of technology or cyberbullying.

As State's Attorney, I will take a leadership role working together with the different agencies (social services, juvenile justice, and the educational system) to provide a coordinated effort to address this important issue.

I recently had the opportunity to discuss this issue with Antioch's former Superintendent of Schools, Matt Taber.

Previous comments by some to my position on this topic as posted here on The Patch suggested that this was not an important issue for the State's Attorney to address.

I invite you to listen in and see my conversation with Mr. Taber, which I would like to note has ended in his formal endorsement of Mike Nerheim for Lake County State's Attorney.

I also encourage you to read more about why I feel strongly about working together to help prevent school bullying. Click Here.
