Bob Vehlow was Active Member of St. Joseph's Parish

Bob Vehlow, 97, passed away Monday Sept. 2, 2013 at Northshore Hospice in Highland Park.

He was born Feb. 22, 1916 in Watertown, WI to Ed and Emelie (Bohlmann) Vehlow. He attended Watertown High School and also served in the 105th Horse Calvary of the Wisconsin National Guard and later in WWIl as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army's 103rd General Hospital Unit in England.

In 1943 Bob and Millie Hrobsky were married. They lived in Milwaukee before settling in Libertyville for more than 50 years. After her death, Bob moved to Lincolnshire to Sedgebrook Retirement Community in 2006. Bob was a very active member of St. Joseph's Parish in Libertyville, serving on numerous committees and as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Stritch Council #3674, Libertyville, and a Fourth Degree member of the Bishop Quarter Assembly #197.

In 1991 he and Millie co-founded the Fund for Seminarian Education benefitting needy students at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. At Sedgebrook, he established weekly mass for the Catholic Community and founded the "Exclusive" 90-year Old Club.

Surviving are his three children; Mike (Diane) Vehlow and Pat (Sue)Vehlow, both of Libertyville, and Mary Ellen, (Steve Hessler) Vehlow, of Washington, DC; four grandchildren, Karl, Kristin, Elizabeth and Jonathan; also survived by his sister, Agnes Froemming of Jefferson WI. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Vehlow in 1998 and also by his three brothers, Herb, Art and Marty Vehlow.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple Avenue, Libertyville. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville.
