Gerald J. Deitz, Jr. was Avid Golfer, Devoted Husband

Services will be held May 1 for Gerald J. Deitz, Jr.

Gerald J. Deitz, Jr., 83, passed away on Sat. April 27, 2013 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Gerald was born Dec. 7, 1929 in Lake Forest and spent his childhood in Waukegan. Graduating from Waukegan Township High School in 1947, he attended Lake Forest College and the University of Illinois Extension before entering the Air Force in 1951. Gerald was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a staff sergeant in 1954 and upon his return, completed a Bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Illinois, Champaign. Gerald retired early from Fansteel Metallurgical Corp. after 26 years and spent the rest of his working days at State Farm with agents Eddie Richter and Randy Nebel.

Gerald was an avid golfer and sports fan and was a former resident of Waukegan, Libertyville, and Carmel, IN. Gerald was a devoted husband and family man; he especially loved his grandchildren.

Surviving are three children, Gregory (Joyce) Deitz of Richmond, IN, Kristin Lennon of Lake Zurich and Martha (Jerome) Moses of Bloomington, IL; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Alex, Greg, Collin, Jamie, Mary Beth and Rita; great grandson, Christopher; and dear friend since childhood, Anne Smalley of Vernon Hills. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Dorothy Deitz, by his wife Mary Kamschulte Deitz in 1997 and by his sister, Alice Wyrick.

A visitation will be from 2 until the time of service at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville, (Route 176, one block West of Milwaukee Ave.) Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Memorial Donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
