James T. Heier was WWII Veteran, Former Vernon Hills Trustee

Services have been scheduled for James T. Heier of Vernon Hills.

James T. Heier, 87, WWII veteran passed away Sunday Sept. 1, 2013 at VAMC, North Chicago.

Mr. Heier was born in Kansas City, MI and had been a resident of Vernon Hills since 1974. Jim was a persuasive sales representative for his entire life who would never accept the word no. He established fishing derbies in Vernon Hills for Veterans for 28 years and fishing derbies for disabled children and residents of Vernon Hills for 10 years.

Jim served on the board of trustees for Vernon Hills for 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS and a Life Member of VFW Post 8741. He loved jazz music and played bass fiddle in a band in the 1940s. 

He is survived by his loving children, Steven (Barbara) Heier, Richard (Patricia) Heier and Diana Heier, was the proud grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of nine. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen (nee Chrisman) and his loving daughter, Darlene Rairigh.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, Ltd, 101 Park Place (Route 176, one block east of Milwaukee Avenue), Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church, Route 45, Indian Creek, where there will be a visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Interment Willow Lawn Cemetery, Vernon Hills.
