Josef Schmidt was Army Veteran, Member of Libertyville American Legion

Services have been scheduled for Josef Schmidt of Green Oaks.

Josef Schmidt, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 14, 2013 at his home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1939 in Yugoslavia, came to live in the USA in 1955 and has lived in Green Oaks for the past 40 years. He was a proud veteran of the US Army and a member of the Libertyville American Legion Post #$329. He was a retired senior design engineer for Baxter Laboratories and was responsible for over 20 patents. Joe was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville. He enjoyed working around his home, woodworking and especially his gardens.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Beverly Schmidt; two sons, Thomas (Susan) Schmidt of Prospect Heights and Paul Schmidt of Wildwood; a niece, Anita Schmidt; and nephews, Richard Schmidt and David Benson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank.

Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville and services will continue to St. Joseph Church for funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Ascension Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
