Judy Thomas Moriarty Taught in Libertyville District 70 for 30 Years

Services have been scheduled for Judy Thomas Moriarty.

Judy Thomas Moriarty, 73, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at her home.
 
She was born Aug. 6, 1940 in Chicago and has been a Libertyville resident since 1970. Judy was awarded a four-year scholarship to Northern Illinois University after attending Luther North High School. She also received two Master's degrees from National Louis University.

Judy was a teacher with the Libertyville Elementary School District 70 for 30 years. She taught and served as the district coordinator for the Lake County Mastery hearing program, district gifted coordinator and staff development Coordinator. She attended the Mastery of Hearing Service at Brigham Young and Utah Universities. She was affiliated with Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, the National Reading Association and the National Association of Teachers of English. She was also a member of the Lake County Retired Teachers and The Illinois Association of Retired Teachers.

While in Libertyville, Judy became an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a Proclaimer, Eucharistic Minister and CRHP member. She was a member of the Libertyville Junior Women's Club, MainStreet and Condell Auxiliary. She was also a former executive secretary for the David Adler Cultural Center and served on the board of directors for many years.

Surviving are her husband T. Kevin Moriarty; son Jason (Christine) Thomas of Chicago; step sons, Kevin (Dianne) Moriarty of Westfield, NJ, Brendan Moriarty of Glen Ellyn and grandchildren, Holden and Hailey Thomas. Her brother James (Debra) Rice of Willowbrook, caregiver Winnie Parks and her dog named Sam. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Lucille Rice, her sister Barbara Lindgren and brother Norman (Linda) Rice.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple, Libertyville for funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the David Adler Music and Arts Center, 1700 N.
