Nina C. Hammar was Past President of Libertyville-Mundelein AARP Chapter

Services will be held Oct. 24-25 for Nina C. Hammar of Mundelein.

Nina C. Hammar, 98, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at her home.

She was born April 2, 1915 in Chicago, where she was a 1933 graduate of Schurz High School and has been a Mundelein resident for the past 42 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mundelein and enjoyed reading and gardening. Nina was past president of the Libertyville-Mundelein chapter of AARP.

Surviving are two children, Carole (William) Thiel and Russell (Jane) Hammar; son-in-law, Gary Pearl; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Frances Horn; by her husband William Hammar in 1984, by her sister Loretta, brother, Roy and her daughter, Kathleen Pearl.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) Libertyville. A funeral service will be held during the visitation at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, Oct. 25 from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by an interment service at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church or Advocate Hospice.
