Obituary: Henry J. Rehm Jr.

Lifelong resident of Libertyville Henry J. Rehm Jr., 91, passed away on Tuesday, Dec.18, 2012. Henry "Hank" was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joan, in Sept. 2011; and by his two eldest daughters, Emily (Ed) Wojtczak in Jan. 2010 and Louise Rehm in Oct. 2008. His brothers, Albert and Edward; and his sister, Irene Bistrican also predeceased him. Henry is survived by seven children, John (Beverly) Rehm of Denver, Colo., David (Patrice) Rehm of Mundelein, Susan Thompson of Rolling Meadows, Robert Rehm of Carmel, Calif., Betsy Rehm of Libertyville, Joanna (Ralph) Rogari of Malibu, Calif. and William Rehm of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and son-in-law, Ed Wojtczak of Lawrenceville, Ga. He was a much-loved grandfather and great-grandfather "Papa", leaving a legacy of 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, all of whom he cherished. Henry was a World War II veteran, a sergeant in the Army Air Force, serving from 1942 to 1945. He served as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief during the war, spending time in Fort Sheridan, and Lincoln, Neb., but primarily at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla. He kept scrapbooks of his service memorabilia and spent many enjoyable hours looking at them and reminiscing with family and friends about military life. He was a third-generation owner of Rehm Auto Body and Paint Shop in Libertyville, which was founded by his grandfather as a wagon shop in Chicago and was then moved to Libertyville in 1904. Cars were not only his vocation, but also his avocation. Throughout his life, he spent countless hours restoring his prize-winning antique automobiles and was a long-time member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. He loved the time he spent working on his cars, driving his cars, talking about his cars and spending time with other antique auto enthusiasts. Many of these people became lifelong friends and the family extends their gratitude to them for those friendships. Donations in his memory can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 W. Maple in Libertyville. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176), Libertyville.
