Thomas A. Powers, 79, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Winchester House in Libertyville. He was born March 16, 1933, in Waukegan, and had been a Gurnee and Waukegan resident all his life. A veteran of the US Air Force, Tom was a past commander of the Waukegan American Legion Post #281, life member of the Winthrop Harbor VFW and a member of the AMVETS. He was a long valued truck driver for Nabisco and Sears and a member of Teamsters Local #701 in Waukegan. Surviving are his wife, Allene Powers of Gurnee; three children, Jeff (Diane) Powers of Green Oaks, Michelle (Patrick) Quilty of Libertyville and Scott Powers of Gurnee; four grandchildren, Connor, Hayley, Kolton and Tristan; and siblings, Mildred Lundeen, William, Sherry Hacke, Wanda Christian, Donald, Roger and Roberta Stiles. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. A service will be held during the visitation at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
