Richard A. Nelson was Member of American Legion, VFW

Richard A. Nelson, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at his home, at the age of 70.

He was born Aug. 2, 1943 in Chicago to Martin and Cora (nee: Kilcrease) Nelson. Richard was a member of the American Legion, AMVets and the VFW. He loved to garden and make dill pickles. He loved the Bears, liked to play the slots and fish.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Jean, whom he wed April 22, 1968 in Chicago; his daughters Deborah (Greg) Hinkley of Grayslake, Corinne (David) Ness of Antioch, and Sharon (Bobby) Donnellan of Lake Villa; his grandchildren Abby, KC, Jimmy, Thomas, Max, Martin, Savannah, and Aidan; and his brother Lance (Kathy) Nelson of Austin, TX, and his sister Corinne (Bob) Pflug of Mundelein. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Patrick and Martin.

Friends of the family may visit Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 from 4 until 8 p.m. at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Wildwood Presbyterian Church 18630 W. Old Gages Lake Road, Grayslake.
