Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis BIG Success

Over 400 area residents raised $49,000 to fight and cure arthritis by participating in the Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis on April 26. Participants and teams rallied together to show their support and be the voice of people living with the nation’s leading cause of disability.

Funds raised through Walk to Cure Arthritis events across the nation go toward Arthritis Foundation programs, research and advocacy initiatives to help prevent, control and find a cure for this crippling disease.

“This is the twelfth year that Lake County has held the Walk to Cure Arthritis,” says Arthritis Foundation Director of Special Events, Cat Smith. “We are excited to be a part of removing the burden of arthritis both locally and across the country.”

The Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis featured local honoree Elizabeth Esposito who shared her inspirational story about her personal battle with arthritis. By speaking about her experiences living with the disease, Esposito was able to put a face on arthritis and remind participants why this cause is so critical.  Marisa S. Klein-Gitelman, MD served as the events Medical Honoree, and Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) was the keynote speaker.  Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis was presented locally by Advocate Condell Medical Center.

With more than 100 different forms of the disease, arthritis affects more than 50 million adults and 300,000 children – or approximately 22 percent of the United States population. Events like Walk to Cure Arthritis are critical to raising funds to find a cure for this debilitating disease. To learn more about arthritis and what you can do to help, visit www.arthritis.org
