A PROCLAMATION

“Through countless acts of kindness, generosity, and service, Americans recognize that we are all bound together -- that we move this country forward by giving of ourselves to others and caring for those around us. Every day, Americans carry forward the tradition of service embedded in our character as a people. And as we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we embrace our shared responsibility to one another and recommit to the task of building a more perfect Union.”

“By performing acts of service, we can shape a Nation big enough and bold enough to accommodate the hopes of all our people. Across our country, volunteers open doors of opportunity, pave avenues of success, fortify their communities, and lay the foundation for tomorrow's growth and prosperity. They are often equipped with few resources and gain little recognition, yet because of their service, our country is a better and a stronger force for good.”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of National Volunteer Week (April 6-12, 2014).

ElderCARE sends a big “THANK YOU” to all of our volunteers who have been willing to give so freely and generously of their time to help elders in our communities remain healthy, independent and in their own homes.

Some of you may have volunteered with ElderCARE in the past.  Some of you may have volunteered once or twice.  Some of you may have volunteered every week.  No matter what your participation has been; you have visited, shopped for, and have provided transportation to medical appointments.  Since 1998, you have helped 2,700+ elders, provided 128,000+ hours of service and given 18,500+ round trips to medical appointments in northern Lake County, IL.  We are very grateful for your service.

Your efforts are extremely appreciated, not only by ElderCARE, but by the thousands of elders you have helped.  During the time they received service, our elders may have been isolated, unable to get nutritious food of their own choosing and unable to get to their healthcare providers, if it were not for you.

One of the hallmarks of a civilized society is how we treat our elders.  Many of the elders we serve just need a little assistance. ElderCARE volunteers are part of what makes northern Lake County a good place to live no matter your age.

To learn more about volunteering (even just an hour or two a week or month) or how you can receive a little bit of extra help, please call us at (847) 406-4683.  We would be happy to talk to you.

Thank you, again, ElderCARE volunteers!  You are the greatest!!!  Have a wonderful week.
