Blaze Caused $350,000 in Damage at Jamaican Gardens

"Seven of the buildings were either damaged or destroyed," said Assistant Fire Chief Ken Komers.

Libertyville Fire officials are still investigating the cause of a fire that damaged buildings and greenhouses at the shuttered Jamaican Gardens facility.

Assistant Fire Chief Ken Komers said he was out at the site Monday with an insurance company investigator.

"We went through it, trying to determine what might have happened," said Komers. "Right now it's still undetermined. It might come to a point where we never figure it out."

The fire occurred just before noon May 27 at the property, located on Route 176 just west of I-94, according to the Daily Herald.

Komers said there were 11 buildings on the property, seven of which "were either damaged or destroyed." The affected buildings included five greenhouses, a retail center and a warehouse, Komers said.

The blaze caused about $350,000 worth of damage, Komers said.
