DUI Suspect Bites Off Booking Room Camera, Police Say

Police say he was handcuffed when he removed the camera with his mouth and spit it into a garbage can.

The following information is from the Libertyville Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Police arrested Mark R. Santini, 49, of Buffalo Grove, March 7 for DUI after he rear-ended a vehicle on Milwaukee Avenue near Lake Street. A passenger in the vehicle he hit was transported to Condell Hospital where she was treated and released. Santini was asked to perform field sobriety tests, which police said he failed. When police searched Santini’s car, they said they found cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

During the arrest process, Santini obstructed officers by repeatedly refusing to cooperate, police said. At one point while handcuffed, he was seen removing a booking room camera with his mouth and spitting the camera into a garbage can.

Santini was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI alcohol, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing a peace officer and attempted theft.
