Father, Daughter Dead After Metra Train Hits SUV in Round Lake Park

A Round Lake Beach man and his 8-year-old daughter were killed Wednesday evening when a Metra train hit their Range Rover, which had been heading west on Route 134 and was struck after trying to go around or under a railroad crossing at Porter Drive, according to the Daily Herald.

Authorities found the father dead inside the vehicle while the child was ejected from the SUV and was found dead nearby, according to the article. The names have not yet been released of those killed in the crash.

CBS 2 Chicago reports the crash occurred around 6 p.m. and involved Milwaukee District north line train No. 2129.

This is the second crash involving a vehicle and a Metra train at this location so far this year.

A Lake County Sheriff's department's unmarked squad car became stuck in the snow near the same railroad tracks after a detective braked to avoid a crash on Jan. 6. The detective was able to get out of his vehicle before a train came through and struck the car.
