Hit and Run Incident on Route 176 Blocks Traffic Friday Evening

Libertyville police arrested the offending driver Friday night. No injuries were reported.

responded to the scene of a hit and run accident in the area of East Park Avenue and Ashbury Lane about 4 p.m. on Friday.

While investigating the incident police received information that the suspected offending driver may have fled to a residence in the 1200 block of East Park Avenue and was possibly armed with a firearm, according to a press release.

After establishing a perimeter, police personnel were able to make contact with the suspect, who ultimately surrenderd without further incident.

The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time, nor have charges been filed, as the investigation continues.

No injuries to the suspect or police were reported during this incident, nor were there any during the original traffic accident.

East Park Avenue was closed between St. Mary's Road and Fourth Street for about two hours Friday night as police investigated the incident.

Libertyville police requested assistance from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Service Team and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System.
