LIbertyville FD Subdues Basement Fire on Rockland

Just after 5 p.m. Tuesday a 9-1-1 call came in from a resident living in the 700 block of E. Rockland Road. A fire started in the basement during rehab work, one person was taken to the hospital.

The Libertyville Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call early evening Tuesday regarding a basement fire that started during a basement remodel.

Assistant Chief Bob Key said the resident of the home in the 700 block of E. Rockland Road made the emergency call just before 5:15 p.m., after observing smoke.

Once on the scene, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and get everyone out to safety.

A construction worker who was performing work in the basement was taken Advocate Condell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Key said. 

Libertyville Fire Department was assisted by Mundelein Fire Department and Countryside Fire Protection District.

How the fire began, Key said, remains under investigation.
