UPDATE, 4:35 p.m.: Libertyville Police Sgt. Dennis Meserve said the previous reports of an attmpted child abduction in Libertyville "were unfounded."
Meserve said a 9-year-old boy made a false report. The matter will be handled with the boy's parents.

Original story, 4:15 p.m.: Libertyville Police are investigating an alleged attempted child abduction.
The alleged incident apparently took place while the child was walking home from school, according to the Lake/McHenry County Severe Weather Report Facebook page. According to the site's report, "two men in a white van tried abducting him in the area of 4th Avenue and Lincoln Avenue."
The Lake & McHenry County FD Incidents Facebook page posted this update a few minutes later: "Two male subjects with ski masks, one with light blond hair, and they tried to pull a kid into a car that was a red pickup truck older model." A site administrator stated on Facebook that their reports come from police scanners.
Libertyville Police Sgt. Dennis Meserve said police are on the scene investigating the alleged incident.
