Libertyville Police Investigating Crash that Killed Mundelein Man

Police said Richard A. Heim, 70, was killed in the single-vehicle crash Thursday morning.

The Libertyville Police Department is investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday morning, Oct. 4, 2012 at approximately 4:52. The accident took place in the 200 block of West Golf Road, in front of the south Libertyville Fire station. Police received an anonymous report of the vehicle crash, and upon arrival, officers and Fire Department personnel discovered the vehicle, a 2011 Toyota sedan, on its roof in the roadway.

The driver, and sole occupant, Richard A. Heim, age 70, of Mundelein, Illinois was entrapped in the vehicle. He was extricated by Libertyville Fire paramedics and transported to Advocate Condell Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Initial investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on West Golf Road, where it struck a curb, left the roadway, caromed off a parkway tree, and rolled over. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (M.C.A.T.) and the Lake County Coroner’s Office are assisting with the investigation.

Golf Road was shut down between Milwaukee Avenue and Garfield Road for several hours on Thursday while the accident was being investigated.
