Libertyville Police Ramps Up Traffic Enforcement

Additional police will be focusing on impaired drivers as part of the Labor Day "You Drink. You Drive. You Lose" campaign.

has amped up traffic enforcement as part of the Labor Day “You Drink. You Drive. You Lose” campaign, which runs from Aug. 19 to Sept. 5.

The Illinois Department of Transportation recently awarded $7,900 to Libertyville Police Department for additional enforcement to focus on impaired drivers as well as safety belt violations during that period. Statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve a drinking driver and/or unbuckled motorist.

“Nighttime is the most critical time for motor vehicle fatalities. The Libertyville Police Department is dedicated to the cause and will be stepping up our late-night enforcement efforts, making sure impaired drivers are off the road and motorists are buckled up,” said Police Chief Clint Herdegen. “Traffic and highway safety in Libertyville will remain one of our priorities throughout the year.”
