Lake County Police Dog Retiring After 8 Years of Service

The 9-year-old dog will be retiring due to the high physical demands his job requires, according to the Daily Herald.

After eight years of loyal service to the Gurnee Police Department, German shepherd Shane will be retiring from his crime-fighting duties, according to the Daily Herald. 

He will wrap up his career this Friday after he works a Memorial Day weekend safety checkpoint, according to the article. Among Shane's list of accolades, the police dog has took part in drug searches, lead police to suspects and has earned top-three medals during competitions with other police dogs, according to the Daily Herald.
