Man Hits Parked Car, Drives Away, Crashes

A Round Lake man drove away after hitting a parked car on the 500 block of West Street, Libertyville.

A Round Lake man has been charged in a hit-and-run incident that occurred Nov. 26 in Libertyville.

Steven M. Schreiner, 48, 764 S. Winchester Drive, Round Lake, hit a parked car and drove away, police said. The vehicle he was driving later was found on its side near the intersection of Peterson and Behm Road.

Schreiner has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an injury accident, speeding 31 miles above the speed limit, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and reckless driving among other charges.

Two witnesses saw a dark-colored sedan striking a parked car in the 500 block of West Street. The witnesses followed the vehicle to the area of the Lake County Fair Grounds and forced the vehicle to the side of the road, confronting the driver, who later was identified as Schriener. Schriener drove away as one witness tried to hang on to him. The 18-year-old male witness suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.

The vehicle, which had been involved in a one-car rollover crash, later was found lying on its side near the intersection of Peterson and Behm Road. Schriener was located inside the vehicle, injured but conscious. He was treated and later remanded to the Lake County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
