UPDATE: Mundelein Police Investigating Armed Robbery

A perimeter was set up near Diamond Lake Road and Pleasure Drive, according to a dispatch alert.

UPDATE, 3:26 p.m.: Mundelein Police want residents to keep an eye out for suspicious activity in the wake of an armed robbery that occurred at a Mundelein grocery store Friday morning.

Deputy Chief Don Hansen said two men entered the Supermercado Vargas grocery store with handguns, wearing masks, and fled the store on foot with an unknown amount of currency. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Police were called to the scene at 9:50 a.m., Hansen said, and performed a search in the surrounding area in an attempt to locate the men. Hansen said the men were described as Hispanic, one about 5'9" with a light to medium complexion and a thin build. The other was 5'7" with a darker complexion and a heavy build, Hansen said. Both were estimated to be between 20 and 25 years old. Hansen added that both men had short, spiked hair.

Nearby residents provided police with information regarding the direction the men traveled. Police used a K-9 unit and an AirOne helicopter to assist in the search, Hansen said.

"We attempted to track them, but the trail went cold," said Hansen.

He said police will continue to investigate this incident and look for patterns with other towns.

Hansen asks residents to "report suspicious activity if they see it." You can reach the Mundelein Police Department at (847) 968-4600.
