Police Blotter: Burglary to Business and Residence

The police blotter is compiled from reports provided by the Libertyville Police Department each week. Readers are reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Theft at Condell

A surveillance camera showed Wadsworth resident Garciela Navarrete, 31, taking a Nintendo DS that had been left in a waiting room at Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Police charged Navarrete for theft of mislad property. She was later released on a personal bond. Her court date is set for April 13.

Burglary to Business

On Feb. 15, a business owner in the 1700 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue reported that someone broke a glass door and entered the business. A laptop computer, a phone with a charging base and answering machine, a fax/scanner/copy machine, and several tools, as well as $191 were stolen. The total loss was estimated at $5,141. Police are investigating the case.

A business in the 300 block of Peterson Road reported that a cash register and cash box was stolen sometime during night of Feb. 14. Police reports say the thief appeared to have entered the business through a rear door. The cash box was later found at a local church and returned to the business owner. In addition to the missing cash register, the thieves also took $110 in cash.

On Feb. 21, a business in the 400 block of Peterson Road reported that it was burglarized over the previous weekend. A block metal cash box with about $125 was removed from the desk in the reception area. Nothing else appeared to be missing and there was no sign of forced entry.

Residential Burglary

A home in the 100 block of Blueberry Road was burglarized on Feb. 17. Police say the burglars entered through a rear screen porch door. A Wii box, an iPod with speakers, an iPod Touch, a clear piggy bank jar containing an unknown amount, two bottles of wine, a wicker basket and several pieces of costume jewelry was stolen. No estimate of the loss was given.

Driving Under the Influence

On Feb. 20, police received a report of a possible drunk driver. They stopped Waukegan resident Jorge Herrera, 33, on Route 137 just east of Milwaukee Avenue.

Herrera failed to field sobriety tests and was arrested, and his vehicle was towed.

Police found that this was Herrera’s second charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and issued a Notice of Statutory Suspension. He was also charged with improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Herrera was released on personal bond and his court date is set for March 8.
