Police Blotter: Possession of Stolen Vehicle; Fleeing and Eluding

The Libertyville Police Department reports arrests from Nov. 18-23.

These incidents were among the official reports of the Libertyville Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

Alcohol

Phillip T. Kukla, 52, of 15200 W. Pinewood, Libertyville, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Nov. 22 near Buckley Road and Center Street. He was also cited for DUI over .08, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol. He was released on his drivers license and a $1,000 personal recognizance bond pending a Dec. 2 court date.

Nicholas P. Lavelle, 23, of 37418 N. Fox Hill, Wadsworth, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Nov. 23 near Milwaukee Avenue and Greggs Parkway. He was also cited for improper use of a turn signal and speeding. He was released on his drivers license and a $1,000 personal recognizance bond pending a Dec. 13 court date.

Drugs

Adam A. Grasso, 22, of 4807 Jeffrey St., Antioch, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia Nov. 18 near Route 137 and Butterfield Road. He was also cited for drivers license not on person and failure to transfer registration. He was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond pending a Dec. 2 court date.

Two individuals were charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia Nov. 20 on Route 137 near Milwaukee Avenue. Arrested were: Juan Javier Lopez, 27, of 1659 Ferry, Waukegan, and Mitchell J. Wojcik, 27, of 37339 N. Frolic, Beach Park. Wojcik was also cited for not having a valid drivers license and disobeying a traffic control device. Wojcik was released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond, while Lopez was released on a $120 personal recognizance bond. Both have a Dec. 11 court date.

Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer

Jasmine Barrera, 21, of 1033 Tamarack, Libertyville, was charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer Nov. 22. Libertyville police were assisting the Vernon Hills Police Department in locating a retail theft suspect. Police said they stopped Barrera's vehicle at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 on Tamarack Lane and saw new clothing in the vehicle. Upon asking about the clothing, police said Barrera drove away and stopped at her home and ran inside. She was also cited for driving without insurance, and resisting and obstruction of a police officer. She was released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond pending a Dec. 19 court date.

Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

Justin A. Russell, 25, of 4110 Continental No. 15, Waukegan, was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle Nov. 22. Police said they found a 2005 Toyota parked on the 700 block of Seventh Avenue and determined it had been reported stolen from Gurnee. While officers were attempting to locate the occupant, they received a call of a burglary in progress on the 800 block of East Rockland Road. Using a description of the offender, police located Russell at about 5 a.m. He was also cited for three counts of burglary from motor vehicle. He was transported to the Lake County Courthouse.
