Police Blotter: Retail Theft, Alcohol Arrests

The Vernon Hills Police Department reports arrests from Oct. 9-14.

These incidents were among the official reports of the Vernon Hills Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

Retail Theft

Gabriela Cervantes-Vargas, 19, of 209 W. Court of Sherwood No. 2A, Vernon Hills, was charged with retail theft Oct. 9 at Sears, 2 Hawthorn Center. Police said she left the store without paying for a $34 pair of pants. She was released on $120 cash pending a Nov. 8 court date.

An 11-year-old girl was charged with retail theft Oct. 10 at Claire's, 528 Hawthorn Center. Her court date information was not available.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with retail theft Oct. 10 at Walmart, 555 E. Townline Road. Police said he left the store without paying for nearly $60 worth of video games. He was released on a notice to appear in court Nov. 8.

Yogeshwari Raju, 36, of 1116 Startford Lane, Lake Zurich, was charged with retail theft Oct. 12 at Kohl's, 235 N. Milwaukee Ave. Police said he left the store without paying for $172 worth of clothing, jewelry and accessories. He was released on $120 cash pending a Nov. 8 court date.

Alcohol

Amber C. Nelson, 21, of 340 Cherry Valley Road, Vernon Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 12 on the 300 block of Camden Place. She was also cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and not having insurance. She was released on her drivers license and a $1,000 recognizance bond pending Nov. 7 court date.

Kathryn H. Bjornson, 18, of 284 Hiawatha Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of liquor by a minor Oct. 13 on the 200 block of Onwentsia Road. She was released on a notice to appear in court Nov. 8.

Francis J. Brincherhoff, 25, of 3 Goldfinch, Hawthorn Woods, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 13 on West Hawthorn Parkway. He was also cited for BAC over .08 and not having insurance. He was released on his drivers license and a $1,000 recognizance bond pending a Nov. 14 court date.

Mary M. Novak Beatty, 54, of 1350 N. Wells No. F114, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 14 near St. Mary's and Townline Roads. She was also cited for not having insurance, BAC over .08 and improper lane usage. She was released on her drivers license and a $1,000 recognizance bond pending a Nov. 14 court date.
