Police Blotter: Theft at Condell, Driving Mishaps

The police blotter is compiled from reports provided by the Libertyville Police Department each week. Readers are reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Theft at Condell

Police were called to Advocate Condell Hospital after the hospital reported a man had taken several items from the facility, according to police reports.

On March 15, Jeremiah Merriman, 34, of the 200 block of W. Park Avenue, was charged with theft under $300. Police say Merriman was a patient in the emergency room and upon leaving, hospital staff noticed several items were missing from a hospital cart and its security lock was broken. Some of the missing items were found on Merriman and in a lobby bathroom. Merriman was released after signing a personal bond. His court date is set for March 25.

Burglary to Vehicles

On March 16, two homeowners, one in the 500 block of Ash Street, the other in the 500 block of Oak Stret, reported that sometime during the previous night, their vehicles were entered. A briefcase and Garmin Nuvi GPS were removed from the vehicles.

Driving Mishaps

On March 16, police stopped Ohio resident Darryl Moore, 43, near Milwaukee Avenue and Route 137 after observing him traveling in the median lane as he made a left-hand turn from Route 137 onto Milwaukee Avenue. Police found Moore was driving with a suspended Ohio license and arrested him. He was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and improper lane usage. He was later released after signing a personal bond. His court date is set for April 27.

Waukegan resident Tania Gomez, 20, was stopped for speeding on E. Rockland Road on March 17. Police arrested Gomez after she told them she did not have a driver’s license and her vehicle was towed. She was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and for speeding. She was later released on personal bond. Her court date is set for April 13.

Police stopped a Vernon Hills teen for having only one operational taillight on March 19. Police arrested the teen after he told them he never had a driver’s license. The teen was charged with not having a valid driver’s license and equipment violation.  He was released on a personal bond and his court date is set for April 27.

Following a citizen report of an intoxicated driver police located Vernon Hills resident Sophronia Sharples, 29, on Route 137 at Butterfield Road. Sharples failed all field sobriety tests, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol. In addition to the Libertyville charges, Sharples was also cited by the Gurnee Police Department for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Sharples was later released on a personal bond. Her court date is set for April 15.
