Police Blotter: Theft, DUI, Invalid License & Insurance

The police blotter is compiled from reports provided by the Libertyville Police Department each week. Readers are reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Theft

Thieves broke the front door windows with a rock to gain entrance to Buck Brothers John Deere at 1080 E. Park Ave on May 14. Three Stihl landscape tools, a hedge clipper and two backpack blowers were stolen. The items were valued at $1,250.

A commuter who parked in the Prairie Crossing South train depot lot, 2401 Harris Rd., reported that a Sirius radio was stolen from the vehicle on May 9. The theft occurred sometime after the commuter left the car at 6:15 a.m. and before the commuter returned at 6:30 p.m. the same day. The passenger side window was broken to gain entry. The radio was valued at $300. Police say they are still investigating the theft.

A navy blue women’s mountain bike was reported stolen from the second level of the parking deck on May 10. The locked bike had been left overnight at the bike racks in the southeast corner and was missing the next morning at 8:15 a.m. The cable had been cut. At 8 p.m. that evening, the bike’s owner reported that the bike was found in the parking garage, propped up against a wall, missing a pedal, but otherwise in good condition.

Possession of Cannabis

On May 9, police found a vehicle with the interior lights illuminated parked in the 100 block of Coolidge Avenue at about 3:20 a.m., violating the Village’s no-parking ordinance between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. When police checked the car, a door was ajar with the smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle, according to police repots. Police located the vehicle’s owner, Vernon Hills resident David Florsch, 20, and he consented to a search of the vehicle. Police found cannabis and drug paraphernalia, arrested and charged Florsch with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. He was later released on a $120 bond pending a court date of June 8.

Driving Without License, Insurance

Police stopped Wauconda resident Maria Rosa De Guadalupe Jimenez-Ramirez, 25, on Route 176 at Butterfield Road at midnight on May 13. A records check revealed Jimenez-Ramirez was driving without a license and she was arrested. Police charged her with driving without a valid license and operating an uninsured vehicle. After processing and posting a $200 bond, she was released pending a court date of June 8.

Police stopped Waukegan resident Jose Telles-Reyes for speeding on Butterfield Road near Route 176 on May 15. When asked, Telles-Reyes told police he neither had a driver’s license nor insurance on the vehicle. Police arrested him and charged Telles-Reyes for driving without a valid driver’s license, operating uninsured vehicle and speeding. He was later released after signing a $2,000 personal bond. His court date is set for June 22.

DUI

Following reports by two people of a possible impaired driver on May 13, police headed to the parking lot of the Butterfield Square Plaza at the southeast corner of Butterfield Road and Route 137. Police found Third Lake resident Warren Schelling, 58, sitting in his car with the driver’s door open and with the smell of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. A records check revealed Schelling had a revoked driver’s license with restricted driving privileges. Police arrested Schelling and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while license revoked, operating uninsured vehicle and failure to display driver’s license upon demand. At the police department, Schelling complained of chest pain and was admitted to Advocate Condell Hospital. Upon his release from the hospital, he was taken to the Lake County jail to await a bond hearing.

South Barrington resident Laura Swim, 47, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped her on Milwaukee Avenue near Peterson Road at about 2 a.m. on May 14. Police charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. She was later released after posting her driver’s license and signing a personal bond. Her court date is set for June 10.
