Duo Charged with Five Burglaries in Libertyville

A Libertyville man and a Waukegan man were charged in connection with a string of residential burglaries that occurred between Nov. 4 and Nov. 7.

Libertyville police have charged two men and a juvenile in connection with five residential burglaries that occurred around the village between Nov. 4 and 7.

Anton Herres, 19, of 203 Water St., Apt. 201, Waukegan, was charged with five counts of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony.

Joseph M. Smith, 20, of 910 Fairlawn Ave., Libertyville, and a 16-year-old juvenile also were each charged with five counts of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.

In addition, the juvenile from Mundelein was charged with one count of theft and possession of stolen property.

The homes were occupied at the time, and entry was made through an unlocked exterior door. Personal electronic devices and money were taken from the homes.

Both Herres and Smith were issued arrest warrants with a bond of $250,000 on Tuesday.

The juvenile, who also was implicated in the Waukegan burglaries, is held at the Depke Juvenile Center in Vernon Hills.

“Through hard work and determination from our investigators and the assistance from the Northbrook and Waukegan police departments, we were able to bring these cases to a successful resolution,” said Police Chief Clint Herdegen.

Anton is speaking out for help since he lost his brother. This was the only way to get attention for him. The poor boy deserves the help but also deserves to be punished for what he did.
