Police Charge Libertyville Resident with Arson

Kyle Kowal was arrested Tuesday in connection with the two structure fires and two arson cases last week.

Police have arrested a Libertyville resident in connection with two structure fires that occurred March 24 at 234 W. Cook Ave. and Homewood Dr.; and two arson attempts in the 200 block of Homewood Dr. and 300 block of Laurel Ave.

Kyle Kowal, 26, of the 600 block of West St., was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated arson, a Class X felony, arson, a Class One felony; and two Class Two felonies for attempted arson and burglary.

Libertyville police say all arson and arson attempts were related and "police are confident that Kowal acted alone," according to the press release.

No one was injured in the two fires but three homes were damaged. The attempted arsons resulted in minor damages.

Kowal was taken to a bond hearing on Thursday morning and remanded on a $500,000 bond.
