Police: Man Charged in Attempted Strong-Arm Robbery

Police said the 33-year-old man attempted to steal a woman's purse Oct. 10 in downtown Libertyville.

Libertyville Police have arrested a 33-year-old man who allegedly attempted to steal a woman's purse Oct. 10 on the 500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

Travis J. Williams, who told police that he is homeless, was charged with attempted robbery and aggravated battery, both Class 3 felonies, said Lt. William Kinast.

Police said the attempted strong-arm robbery occurred just before 6 p.m. Oct. 10. The robber attempted to take the woman's purse and when she refused to let go, the offender pushed the victim to the ground. The man then fled the scene on foot.

Kinast said police canvassed the area following the attempted robbery and were able to obtain video surveillance from a nearby business.

"Detectives were able to have images from the video enhanced, thus allowing them to identify the offender and his vehicle," said Kinast.

Williams was already in custody at the Lake County Jail on unrelated charges. He remains in custody and a bond hearing regarding the Libertyville charges is pending.
