Police: Officer Faces Charges for Stealing $3,700 in Gas

A Round Lake Beach Police Department K-9 officer is accused of charging more than $3,700 in gas to a department account between February and May, according to the Daily Herald. 

Kenneth Rydz, 41, has been placed on administrative leave and has been charged with 12 counts of  theft and official misconduct, the Daily Herald reports. 

The Round Lake Beach Police Department maintained an account with a Thornton's Gas Station for officers to use on an "as-need basis and in cases of emergencies." An investigation began when a questionable bill came into the police department, according to the Daily Herald.
