Police: Round Lake Beach Man Charged with Drug-Induced Homicide

Libertyville Police said the Round Lake Beach man provided heroin to a Libertyville man, who died Jan. 31.

On Thursday, Jan. 31, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Libertyville Police and Fire Departments responded to a residence on North Third Street on a report of a 20-year-old unresponsive male subject. Emergency lifesaving procedures were performed on the male subject, identified as Timothy McCann, age 20. McCann was subsequently transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center by Libertyville paramedics where he was pronounced dead.

Officers at the scene determined that heroin use was involved, and with the assistance of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (LCMEG), an investigation was started. LCMEG agents and Libertyville investigators identified Byron J. Sullivan, age 21, as the person who provided heroin to McCann. Sullivan was located at his residence, 1117 North East End Ave., Round Lake Beach, and was taken into custody at 4 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.

Sullivan is charged with the following:

  • Drug Induced Homicide (Class X Felony)
  • Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Class 2 Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)

Sullivan was transported to a bond hearing where he was remanded to the custody of the Lake County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.

An autopsy was performed by the Lake County Coroner’s Office at 9 a.m. on Feb. 1. Results have not yet been released pending toxicology reports. The police investigation is continuing.
