Updated: Pets Died In Brainerd Avenue House Fire
No one was injured in the fire, and the cause of the fire is unknown, Fire Chief Rich Carani said.
A fire in a coach house in the 300 block of Brainerd Avenue destroyed much of the home and a car parked in front of it.
The fire broke out after 3:30 p.m., said area resident Dorothy Brennan. She said a friend called her to say there was a fire in her neighborhood.
"I walked out to see and suddenly all this showed up," she said, pointing to several fire trucks.

"There was a young male that was able to get out (of the fire) on his own," Conner said.

No one was injured, but a dog, a cat and a bird died in the blaze. The two-story unit was rendered "uninhabitable," and the American Red Cross is helping residents relocate temporarily, Conner said.
Nearby houses were not affected by the fire.
Knollwood and Countryside Fire Department were among the first to respond to the fire alarm, which also drew responses from eight fire departments, including Mundelein, Grayslake, Lake Forest and Gurnee, officials said.
Carani said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but the department will release information as it becomes available.
Assistant Fire Chief Ken Komers, a fire marshal and two investigators from Countryside are investigating the cause of the blaze.
