Traffic Stops Lead To DUI, Drug Paraphernalia Arrests

A 19-year-old and 29-year-old were both arrested after police pulled them over on Milwaukee in separate incidents.

Traffic stop leads to drug paraphernalia arrest

Edgar Melchor, 19, of Grayslake was stopped on Milwaukee Avenue near Walnut Street on March 10 at 11:30 p.m. when he was seen driving with only one taillight. During the traffic stop, officers said they smelled the odor of marijuana and a search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and Melnor was arrested. After processing on charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without lights when required, Melchor was released on a $120 personal recognizance bond pending an April 9 court date.

Mario Ayala, 29, or Round Lake Beach, was seen swerving as he drove on North Milwaukee Avenue at 1:40 a.m. March 14. He was stopped on Milwaukee Avenue near Winchester Road. Officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath, and Ayala was asked to perform field sobriety tests. He failed the sobriety tests and was arrested and the vehicle towed. Prior to the tow, the vehicle was searched and marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found. He was processed on charges of DUI alcohol, DUI alcohol over .08, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage. He was later released after posting his driver’s license and a $1,000 personal recognizance bond. His court date was scheduled for April 11.
