11-Year-Old Girl Stabbed 40 Times; Half-Sister Charged With Murder

More details surrounding the murder of an 11-year-old girl Tuesday morning were revealed during a press conference Wednesday afternoon, according to media reports. 

An autopsy showed the 11-year-old girl, who police say was killed by a 14-year-old girl in a Mundelein home, suffered 40 knife wounds, including 30 stab wounds across the girl's neck, chest and arm; three slashes across her face; and defensive wounds on her hands, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

The Daily Herald reports the two girls were relatives and both lived together in the town house in the 1600 block of Woodhaven Court where the 11-year-old girl's body was discovered by police about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Some media reports have identified the girls as half-sisters. 

The attack occurred following an argument and police believe a small kitchen knife was used as a weapon, according to the Daily Herald. The Chicago Tribune reports that police believe the attack occurred just before the 14-year-old called 911 around 8:25 a.m.

The 14-year-old girl has been charged with first-degree murder as a juvenile and was expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon, according to the Chicago Tribune. Officials could still transfer the case to adult court and that decision could be made in coming weeks, according to the Daily Herald.
