$1.95 Million Settlement Reached in Lake Co. Inmate's Death

A $1.95 settlement has been reached in a federal lawsuit filed by the family of a 51-year-old Grayslake inmate who became paralyzed following a violent confrontation with a guard while in custody at the Lake County Jail, according to the Daily Herald. 

The lawsuit claims police beat and assaulted Gruber and used pepper spray on him while processing him at the jail after he was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing on Oct. 31, 2011, according to the article.

The lawsuit also claims those injuries resulted in neck injuries that left Gruber paralyzed and four months later, he died, according the Daily Herald.
