Butler Lake Fishing Pier to be Replaced

How much will the new pier cost? Read on.

Butler Lake is set to get a new fishing pier to replace the one that was damaged during the spring 2013 floods.

Libertyville trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to execute a contract with Supreme Seawall to replace the fishing pier. The new pier, however, will be different from the previous pier. Rather than replace the wooden pier with another wooden structure, trustees agreed with a recommendation from village staff that a concrete pier be installed instead.

According to village board meeting documents, a wooden pier would require extensive maintenance, have a life span of just 15 years and cost $27,300. Conversely, a concrete pier would require minimal maintenance, have a live span of 30 years or more, and cost $24,350.

Village Administrator Kevin Bowens noted that the village expects to receive money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to cover the damage to the previous pier, which was estimated at $15,000.
