Cool Off at Libertyville Civics Center, Police Department

The village has opened cooling centers in the area.

With the high temperatures soaring around 100 degrees, the village of Libertyville has opened two cooling centers from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the village website.

  • , 200 E. Cook St.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is recommending the following tips for staying cool during the extreme heat:

  1. Increase fluid intake, avoid alcohol, caffeine or large amounts of sugar
  2. Protect your body with lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
  3. Don’t leave anyone, including pets in a closed parked vehicle
  4. While outdoors, rest often in a shaded areas
  5. Plan outdoor activities before noon or in the evening
