Decorative Streetlights to be Repainted in Downtown Libertyville

The Prairie Crossing commuter parking lot lights will also be repainted.

The decorative Sternberg streetlights in downtown Libertyville and the Prairie Crossing commuter parking lot will soon look like new again.

Libertyville trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to use Capital Improvement Fund and Commuter Parking Fund money, totaling just over $35,000, on the streetlight painting project. Muscat Painting and Decorating, the lowest bidder for the project, was awarded the contract.

The trustees' vote also authorized using a different color for the streetlights. The poles will be painted with a Gloss Black finish instead of the Verde Green antique finish. The Gloss Black is expected to be easier to maintain.

"The Verde Green tends to fade," said John Heinz, public works director.

The streetlights from Route 176 to Church Street will be included in the first portion of the project.

"Staff anticipates that additional funds will be included in the next several budget years to complete all of the streetlights in need of painting," according to village board meeting documents.
