Libertyville Can Seek Federal Aid for Blizzard of 2011
FEMA declared Lake County a disaster area during the recent snowstorm.
Libertyville, like other Lake County towns, will be eligible for federal disaster aid to cover the cost of the Blizzard of 2011, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Thursday.
Funding is “available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the snowstorm,” according to a FEMA release.
Lake, McHenry, Kane, DeKalb and Cook counties are all eligible, FEMA stated.

The historic snowstorm hit Jan.31 and paralyzed the entire region with 17 to 20 inches of snow in some areas.
Libertyville spent some $168,000 on the Blizzard of 2011, which bought 20 inches of snow to the area, according to the village.

The village is working with the Lake County Emergency Management Agency to apply for federal funding reimbursement.
